It is Chilly in Chile!

The Week:

God is revealing his faithfulness more and more each week. The relationships that we have with the people are deepening. On Tuesdays, the english teacher has split her classes in half and sends half of her class with us to do games and vocabulary and then we switch. It is working out great, and the kids love having 45 minutes of book work time and 45 minutes of games and more conversational things. I think the kids love it the most because we have fun prizes that we brought from America (bouncy balls, pens, bookmarks, etc.).

I purchased a trompo, a little wooden top that a lot of the young boys play with here between classes and after school. So in between classes, I am learning how to throw it. It is a lot of fun, and they laugh at all of my attempts.

On Wednesdays, Michelle and I eat at a little restaurant in El Palqui and then walk home to La Villa. It is about a 30 minute walk, but it is a good relaxing time and gives us the chance to see the sights and sounds of El Palqui and La Villa. 

On Friday, the cooks in La Villa taught Michelle and I how to make Empanadas! It was such a fun experience and now we have the recipe to make them when we get back to the States!

Prayer Requests:

* Pray that we would look for creative ways to speak about Christ. We have been in the schools for 5 weeks now, and God has provided so many relationships. Pray that we will have boldness and creativity in sharing our faith and not hide behind the excuse that we cannot speak the language well enough. This has been a struggle for me to be bold in speaking the name of Christ. I have to admit it is easier just to teach English, but that is not the main reason why I have come to Chile. The more important thing is introducing the people to Christ. 

*Pray for endurance. Some of our days are long and tiring. It is easy to get tired by the time we are in afternoon classes. Pray that we will have energy and enthusiasm as we work with the students throughout the entire day.

Cultural Facts:

*Milk, leche, is not found in the refrigerator section at the grocery stores. It is sold either in 1 liter bottles or cartons and does not need to be refrigerated until after opening.

*Colectivos: these are taxis that have specific routes. They have signs on top showing their route, and they fill the car up and operate like a small bus, taking people to different cities on the route. 

*When you are in a restaurant, you must ask for your bill. They will let you sit there for hours and will not bring it until you ask.
